Climate

change

Scientists seem to agree that our climate is changing and that this will affect our weather patterns. These may include longer droughts and perhaps extreme cold spells in Winter.

Such changes make it harder for our badgers to forage for the earthworms they require or to access the water they need.  In the 2018 drought, it was estimated that 1000s of badger cubs nationwide died of starvation.

What you can do:

  • at BBG, we ask people who know of local setts, that they can legally access, to put out water and/or suitable food such as peanuts during difficult spells;

  • during Summer droughts we can thus ensure that this year’s cubs survive and that the adults can lay down enough fat for Winter;

  • during frozen spells, we can ensure that there is the food and water necessary for any badgers still out and about.
